"And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Matt 3:16-17
I don’t think there can be a greater reward than to be acknowledged by our Father in heaven as a beloved child. Jesus being the first of many brethren experienced this. All of heaven gave way, the skies parted as a scroll, and the massive splendor of the voice of the Almighty poured out upon one man, Jesus Christ. This was simply to signify His pleasure in His little boy.
Yes, the heavens were opened! They gave way so that God’s child could be appropriately acknowledged. The heavens opening is not some emotional theory or concept. It does not simply refer to pulling things out of the sky (which we cannot). Rather, it refers to the literal opening up of heaven, and/or the heaven’s response to the will of God.
Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. Acts 1:11
One day the heavens will once again open, and God will acknowledge us as beloved sons. Spiritual wickedness in high places will be cast to the earth and be bound there; that we may have clear passage through the heavenlies. The sky shall tear as a garment, and the presence and voice of our beloved saviour Jesus Christ shall look upon us and call us by name, commanding us to "Come up higher".
We shall all be changed, We shall put off this vile body, and we will put on our true glory – the glory of God, Children, let us be patient and look towards that day when the heavens will open for us.
