God has impressed it upon our hearts to live a fasted life. Fasting is a time where you depart from something (typically food) as a form of begging (supplication) unto the Lord. It is coupled with prayer, where the thing you are begging for is mentioned consistently. As children of God, there must be evidence that we are people centered. Their must be evidence that our lives are truly not about serving us, but for the well-being of those around us.
God is preparing Himself a people that will deny the flesh. They will be servants of the Spirit of God, and they will be sensitive to His will. They will walk in the glory and righteousness of the Spirit, and God will work through them. However, there will also be those who chide against the Spirit, who refuse to deny themselves, and refuse to walk according to Christ. They will find themselves being left behind. Now is the time to be afflicted. Let us afflict our souls till we see nothing but Christ in us.
