Have you ever wondered why sometimes in the Bible we are referred to as being in Christ, and in others Christ is said to be in us?
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. - Rom 8:9-10
The above scripture says we are not in the flesh. It is clear that we have bodies, and we think from within. Any movement that we do, we first decide to do so from within, so how are we not in the flesh? And if we are not, where are we? Well the answer is clear … ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit.
Herein the scripture is removing the veil from our eyes. In this scripture, the soul is referred to as ‘ye’ and our body as ‘you’. It can then be read –
But your soul is not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwells in your body. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And Christ be in your body, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteous.
Why is this important? Because it causes us to see with spiritual lenses what our spiritual anatomy looks like. Our souls, are in Christ, however, Christ is in our bodies.
Yes at salvation, God took of your soul and hid it and merged it in His Spirit, and made it one creature (a new creature according to 2 Cor 5:17). He then took this new creature and placed it back into the flesh.
Yes, our soul in Christ is a new creature! We are one with Christ! This is God’s gift is oneness with Himself! Praise Him for the blessedness it is to be called one with Him!
