Ensure you read Yesterday's Sunrise
Yesterday we left off at the following scripture.
Romans 6:3
Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
During the operation of salvation, the soul is baptized into the Holy Spirit. However, something that we must consider is that the Holy Spirit is eternal. As God has said; "I AM THAT I AM" (Ex 3:14). Jesus also confirms this in his testimony in revelation saying; I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last (Rev 22:13). Thus, when our souls are baptized into the Holy Spirit, we are baptized into I AM; the Beginning and End. We are baptized into a timeless Spirit.
This baptism takes us all the way to the cross, when Jesus died for our sins. The Holy Spirit did not leave Jesus until He said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost. (Luke 23:46). This is the point He died. He could not have died until the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of life) left His body. Thus, the Holy Spirit was in Him while He was suffering, being beaten and scourged.
Why is this important? Well, because we have been baptized into an eternal Spirit, it means we were in the Holy Ghost while He was on the cross. This is through the divine atonement.
ATONEMENT
The word atonement means at-one-ment. It means to be made one with. It is the method through which God reconciles the sinners to Him. This goes way back to the Old Testament. The Day of Atonement (Lev 16) was a day that Aaron had to present 2 goats. One would be burned as an offering to the Lord and the other would be a scapegoat (an animal burdened with the sins of others). The scapegoat was alive and the sins of all the nation of Israel were prayed upon this goat. The scapegoat was then taken into the depths of the wilderness so it could never find its way back the camp.
However, this is a shadow of Christ.
Now, Jesus is our scapegoat and sacrifice. Upon His arrest, God placed all the sins of the world upon Jesus' flesh. Jesus became our atonement. That flesh was then beaten and bruised for our sakes. The wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23); thus what Jesus endured was the destruction of sin.
Yes, Jesus was the atonement for the whole world, however, not everyone is a partaker of this atonement.
And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Notice that the atonement is only received through Jesus Christ. You must believe upon Jesus unto being filled with the Holy Ghost to receive this atonement. When you receive the Holy Ghost, you receive the atonement.
This spiritual atonement places you in the Holy Ghost and upon the cross, 2000 years ago. Thus, you are in Jesus while He was suffering the penalties for your sins. However, there is no sting to this death that you have baptized into (1 Cor 15:55). You feel no pain, because you were in the Spirit. Jesus took all the pain for us.
When He died, He gave up the Ghost. In other words, the Holy Ghost left His body and went back to heaven. Jesus' soul went alone into the depths of hell for 3 days and nights to suffer for our sins. However, in 3 days He rose again. Stay with us, because next week we will see exactly what happened when Jesus rose from the dead.
