Praise, Love, and Thanksgiving

It’s important that our prayers begin with praise, love and thanksgiving unto God. The Bible says, “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise.” (Psalm 100:4). Think about how holy and righteous God is, and let your spirit praise Him for How awesome of a God He is.

God wants to be loved! He wants to be appreciated! He does things for us everyday that perhaps wouldn’t matter to another person, but to us, it was special. Be grateful for all of these and let Him know:

Think about how He saved you and what He saved you from. Where was your heart and mind before being saved? What were you bound in? What were the trail of events that led to your salvation? And what did God specifically do to lead you to Him?

Think about the daily mercies and protection you have personally received from Him and name some of them. God watches over our family and loved ones. He rescues us from dangerous and near-death situations. He provides everything from food, clothing, and shelter to a pen just when we need it to write down some important information. Isn’t He worthy?

Let Him know that you recognize all that He does and that you are appreciative of it. Your ability to remember even the smallest blessings that God has bestowed upon you, is a tell-tale sign of your awareness of His mercy in your life. It is also a sign of lowliness. If you can only thank Him for the major things, it means that you feel you are entitled to those smaller blessings.

Do not rush this part of your prayer. Spend as much time as you feel led to in loving on God. Many times, we come into prayer with our burdens and cares and want to just offload them right away! But we must first acknowledge God for who He is and what He has already done, before we ask for more.
