One of the most common things that people are grateful for when asked is the gift of life. In this world it is a general understanding that if your heart is beating that means that you are alive. There is also a concept called quality of life that is often indicated by education, employment, housing, and possessions that one acquires along the way. It is said that we should make the best of life because you only live once. However, as we continue to explore things from God’s point of view we must come to accept that what God has said in the Bible is the only reality. In Jesus’s words, he expressed it to His friend, Thomas, like this.
John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
John got a clearer picture of this and said:
1 John 5:12
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
If this sounds like it is saying without Jesus, you are dead; that is exactly what it is saying. Something as tragic as death happened to all mankind because of the first sin ever committed. The father of all sin, Satan, the spirit of iniquity entered God’s creation.
Romans 5:12
Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
This is God’s perspective and they only true perspective. Life is a knowledge of God. (John 17:3). Not the knowledge by way of reading or just hearing but an actual union of Jesus’ life (the Holy Spirit) with your soul (1 Cor 6:17). You haven’t really known God until His life comes to live in your body.
If by reading this you realize that you have been without life all along, you can ask the Lord Jesus for His life right now. But when you ask Him, be ready and willing to let go of what you had thought life to be. This, my friend takes humility and most of all belief that God’s word is the truth. You can choose life today, I promise... you won’t be disappointed.
If you already have life, then rejoice! It's your time to introduce someone else to the true life-giver. But if you find yourself seeking the things of the world for life, the truth is, what you will really find is death: an eternal separation from God.
