Why can't we be friends?

As a teenager, one of the first youth group meetings that is still etched in my mind is that Friday they spoke about friendships. The session was opened with a question: Who is your best friend? At the time I didn’t see how that part of my life related to Godliness. But as we continued in the discussion I began to see how this very scripture was important to a son of God.

2 Corinthians 6:14

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Being a friend is more than a “status”, it is a reflection of where your preferences lie. It is impossible for Christians to enjoy unrighteousness. But some may say, it’s just a friend and they can’t change who I am…. But the lord begs to differ

1 Corinthians 15:33

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

So instead of trying really hard to make an unequally yoked friendship work, just relax, be you, and you will find that God already has friends waiting for you in the great big wonderful family of God.
