Unveiling the Purpose of the Book of Matthew

The book of Matthew was written by the Apostle Matthew with a specific purpose. Matthew’s ministry was mainly to Jews and Jewish Christian believers. He was given the responsibility (measure of ministry) to convince through proof that Jesus Christ is the promised Messiah; and the only legal proof to this is the Holy scriptures.

Remember at this time there was no New Testament, only the Old Testament. Therefore, throughout the book, Matthew constantly intertwines quotes from the Old Testament, proving how Jesus fulfilled all the things prophesied concerning the Messiah. Matthew brings the Old Testament scriptures to life, explaining prophecy and outlining the life Jesus lived on earth. It is an excellent book to learn who Jesus was when He lived here on the earth.

Keep these things at the forefront of your mind as we continue to study the book of Matthew.
