I remember once, while I was praying, I heard when the Lord told me that, He does not consider anything that is less than the life of Christ as righteous; neither does He accept it. At salvation, we received the life of Christ and God is only pleased when Christ is in operation through us. This operation should not be limited to ministerial service, but Christ must be operating through us, every second of our lives.
1 Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Before we received the Holy Ghost, our emotions were that of the devil. We had hatred, malice, envy, and pride. However, at salvation, God removed the working of sins from within us, and He placed our souls in Christ Jesus. This caused us to be made the righteousness of God.
Just as it is natural for a person to grow hair and to breathe, righteousness is natural for the sons of God. We became a righteous creation.
"...that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness"
Seeing that we are set free from the captivity of Satan and made the servants of righteousness, sin no longer has dominion over us. We are alive unto righteousness. This means our first and only emotion should be of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). If we allow the Holy Spirit to have His way, through obedience to the word and to our conscience, we will always walk in righteous character.
