Obsession - Thought War Series
Updated: Jan 30, 2019

Have you ever heard about OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)? It seems to be the newest thing that people brag about having simply because they appreciate some amount of symmetry and consistency. It’s that condition that Monk had in the TV series that caused him to feel like he had to get everything in clean, straight, symmetrical lines and dust free. But it also made him do things that were irrational and out of the ordinary. He was a slave to this obsession. It ruled His life and determined how much he could do and how far he could go. He was a prisoner.
But maybe you don’t feel that strongly about germs. Hey… the 3-second-rule works! But is there anything that you can see that you have ever been obsessed about? Has any thought or idea ever been so much a part of you that you were unable to shake loose from its captivity? I have seen people obsessed with careers, their children, relationships and even their parents to the point where every decision they make has to first pass the test of those things. Decisions made now have to enhance or increase the possibility of satisfying those obsessions.
However, obsession is idolatry in its purest form. The object of your obsession becomes your idol and it is now what you worship. But the solution is simple:
2 Corinthians 10 : 5 - Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
The Holy Ghost gives us the power to cast down these idols and return to obeying God. However, you first have to want it. Consider everything as dead to you and allow God to give to you what He sees fit. Do not seek to control your happiness any longer. Give that responsibility to God. He is the author of Joy.
