Believe on Jesus - Discerning Faith Series

Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. - John 6:28-29

The scripture above was shortly after Jesus did the great miracle of feeding 5000+ with 2 fish and 5 loaves. The multitudes noticed that Jesus was a man of many miracles and had a question concerning the works of God. Many today have the same question.

What should I do to perform the works of God?

Well, let’s first of all establish that Jesus’ perspective of the phrase of “works of God” was a little different from the multitude’s. They were only focused on the miracles; however Jesus was focused on the work of salvation.

The work of salvation causes miracles to be our nature; however a prerequisite for the Jesus ministry is a holy life of love for your fellow man. Love can only be achieved by God. Hence, through the baptism of the Holy Spirit, we have been fashioned into beings of love.

So what shall we do to work the works, love, power and character of God? You must receive the Holy Ghost, and to receive the Holy Ghost you must believe on Jesus. This is the faith of those that do not have the Holy Ghost. They must simply believe!

Testify to someone of the time you believed and were endowed with the Holy Spirit.
